T-Mobile subscribers with the BlackBerry Bold 9700 can upgrade this business-oriented smartphone to BlackBerry OS 6.0, the latest version of RIM's operating system.
This new version brings very significant changes, making devices running it more competitive with Apple's iPhone and smartphones running Google's Android OS.
The changes include the faster, much enhanced web browser, an updated user interface with several of the standard applications redesigned, a tool that allows users to search everything at once (even inside applications), and a built-in YouTube app.
The BlackBerry OS 6.0 upgrade for the Bold 9700 is available now from T-Mobile's website.
RIM announced that this system software upgrade was on the way in August of last year, so users of this device have been waiting eight months for it.
An Overview of the BlackBerry Bold 9700
The second-generation Bold debuted in late 2009, and has since been replaced by the Bold 9780, which launched running OS 6.0.
It has the same general design as all the Bold models, including an HVGA touchscreen, a QWERTY keyboard, and an optical trackpad.
It runs the BlackBerry OS on a 624 MHz processor, and has RIM's standard suite of productivity and entertainment software.
This phone includes a microSD card slot, a 3.2 MPx camera, a GPS receiver, and a 3.5 mm headset jack.
The BlackBerry Bold 9700 is a quad-band GSM phone, with tri-band UMTS/HSDPA. It also has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
