Samsung Droid Charge Can Be Pre-Ordered at Below Regular Cost

Verizon is going to release the Samsung Droid Charge next week, and those who are eager to get this high-end Android model can already put in a pre-order -- and at a special price, too. This will be Verizon's second 4G-enabled smartphone, which will also have a large AM-OLED Plus display.

Verizon's price for this product is going to be unusually high: $300 with a two-year service contract. Those who would like to save a bit can put in a pre-order from Wirefly or LetsTalk, as these online phone retailers are asking $250 for it with contract. This price is good for both new Verizon subscribers and current ones that qualify for an upgrade.

The Droid Charge is set to debut on Thursday, April 28. That's the first day it will be available in Verizon stores and its website, as this carrier itself isn't taking pre-orders for the device.

One of this model's more notable features will be a 4.3-inch WVGA (800 x 480) touchscreen. This will be Super AMOLED Plus display, a new type that has been designed to be easier to see out of doors than previous Super AMOLED screens.

The Droid Charge is going to launch running Google Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) on a 1GHz Samsung Hummingbird processor, but an upgrade to OS 2.3 or beyond is already in development. Samsung's TouchWiz user interface will be layered on top. Like all smartphones running Google's operating system, this device is going to have a powerful web browser and come with aan extensive suite of software, such as Google Maps and Gmail. It will be bundled with Adobe Flash Player 10.1 and the Samsung Media Hub.

Because this Smaung model will support Verizon's 4G LTE network, the it will offer data transfer speeds of 5 to 12 Mbps for downloads and 2 to 5 Mbps upload speeds under real world conditions. In addition, this handset is going to include Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS, and DLNA, plus it will come with a mobile Wi-Fi hotspot app.

The Droid Charge will sport a rear-facing 8 megapixel auto-focus camera with flash, and a front-facing 1.3 megapixel camera for video conferencing. It will also include an HDMA (720p) video-out port and a 1500 mAh battery. It won't have a significant amount of internal storage, but will instead depend on a microSD memory card slot and a 32GB card.
