Verizon's HTC Droid Incredible 2 Officially Set to Launch in Two Days

Verizon Wireless has stopped being coy and finally made it official: the HTC Droid Incredible 2 is going to hit store shelves on Thursday. This will be the follow-up to one of the most popular Android smartphones of last year.

This upcoming device will build on its predecessor in a number of ways. One of the most obvious of these will be the display, which is going from 3.7-inches to 4-inches. The resolution is staying the same, however: WVGA (800 x 480).

The Droid 2 is going to be usable around the world, as it will be able to connect to both Verizon's CDMA network and the GSM networks used in Europe, S. America, and elsewhere. 

This upcoming HTC model will also have a better rear-facing camera than that of the original: an 8-megapixel camera vs. the 5-megapixel one. It will include a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for video conferencing as well.

The Droid Incredible 2 will offer some multimedia features not available in this series before, such as DLNA for wirelessly connecting to audio and video equipment. It will even sport SRS WOWHD surround sound.

It will still keep some of the specifications of its popular predecessor. This smartphone is going to debut running Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) on a 1GHz processor, for example, and while it has 3G support, it cannot connect to Verizon's 4G LTE network.

This smartphone is going to have a microSD memory card slot, and will be bundled with a 16GB card, giving it more than average storage capacity. Other features will include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 1450 mAh battery.

Price and Availability
The HTC Droid Incredible 2 is going to launch on April 28 in Verizon Wireless stores and this carrier's website.

It will sell for $200 with a two-year service contract. Those who buy this device will need to subscribe to one of Verizon's Nationwide Talk plans and a smartphone data package. Nationwide Talk plans begin at $39.99 a month and an unlimited smartphone data plan is $29.99 a month.
