HTC ThunderBolt Gets a Small System Software Update

Verizon is releasing a "bug fix" update for the system software on the HTC ThunderBolt. This will give the device better 3G service, and make a number of other small improvements.

The ThunderBolt debuted earlier this spring, and this is the first time it's received a system software update. However, it still leaves users of this smartphone waiting for a more significant upgrade to Android OS 2.3.

This device is the first that can access Verizon's 4G network, but this isn't available everywhere. The new system software update will give this model faster data transfers when using a 3G connection.

The official changelog for this new version lists other modifications, such as stability improvements for data-centric apps like Facebook and Yahoo! mail, and faster GPS updates.

Notably absent is any changes intended to increase the battery life of this smartphone, an area many think has room for improvement. However, Verizon reportedly delayed the release of this model as it tried to lengthen the battery life, so it's possible no other improvements in this area are possible. 

Verizon says it is going to begin sending out this system software update to the HTC ThunderBolt today, but it may take some time for all devices to receive it.  When it arrives, users will be notified and asked if they want to install it, a process that will take several minutes.
