AT&T has just announced a launch date for the Samsung Infuse 4G, a cutting-edge Android model that's going to offer a larger screen than virtually all of its rivals, a 1.2GHz processor, and a range of other advanced features.
The Infuse 4G was actually announced way back at CES in early January, but is just now getting close to release. The launch date is set for Sunday, May 15.
Despite the long wait, this smartphone is still going to be on the cutting edge, as it will have a 4.5-inch touchscreen, when most rivals top out at 4.3 inches. In addition, this will be a Super AMOLED Plus screen, a type that offer 50% more sub-pixels for better contrast and outdoor readability. It will have a WVGA (800 x 480) resolution, while some of its more recent competitors have made the jump to qHD (960 x 540).
This Samsung model is also going to include an 8 megapixel camera with auto-focus and flash, as well as a front-facing 1.3 MP camera for video conferencing, but still manage to be the thinnest 4G-capable phone available in the U.S.: its thickness will vary from 8.9mm to 9.24mm.
The Infuse 4G is going to run Google Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) on a 1.2 GHz Hummingbird processor made by Samsung itself. It's going to come with an array of bundled software for communication, productivity, and entertainment.
It will be able to connect to AT&T's 4G network, and will also have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. A microSD card slot and bundled 2 GB card will add storage for files of all types.
At launch, the Samsung Infuse 4G is going be offered exclusively by AT&T, who will be charging $200 for it. A two-year new or renewed contract will be required to get this price, but no mail-in rebate will be necessary.
