Everything You Want To Know About Verizon's Motorola Droid X2

Information on the Motorola Droid X2 has been trickling out over the past few weeks, but it has now reached the flood stage. All the specs for this upcoming cutting-edge model have now leaked out, along with a set of images.

The follow-up to Verizon's original Motorola Droid X is apparently going to have a very, very similar look to its predecessor, and will also include a 4.3-inch touchscreen. The upcoming model will sport a qHD (960 x 540) display, an upgrade over the WVGA (800 x 480) one in the original.

Another upgrade will be its 1GHz Tegra 2 processor, up from the 1GHz single-core chip in the Droid X. The operating system will supposedly be the same however: Google Android OS 2.2 (Froyo). There will be 512 MB of RAM, 6 GB of internal storage, and a microSD/SDHC memory card slot.

Although not the latest edition of Google's OS, this version does include Adobe Flash Player, allowing its web browser to work with Flash-based websites of all kinds. There is also a suite of other apps, many of which work with Google's services, like Gmail and Google Maps.

An area not getting a big upgrade in the Droid X2 is wireless capabilities, and all the information that has leaked out about this model indicates that it will not feature Verizon's 4G service. It will, however, include 3G (EV-DO Rev. A), Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR, and GPS. 

This smartphone will have a better camera than its predecessor, with an 8 megapixel resolution, auto focus, and dual LED. A front-facing camera for video conferencing is notably absent.

This device will boast an HDMI video-out port located next to its Micro-USB port. This arrangement will allow it to support Motorola's Webtop accessories that can convert it into a simple laptop or desktop.

Price and Release Date?
Although Verizon has kept very quiet about the Motorola Droid X2, an unconfirmed report indicates that it will cost $200 with a two-year contract upon launch. Exactly when that launch is going to be is not yet known, though it's expected to happen by the end of May.
