Samsung Nexus S Headed for AT&T

Samsung has accidentally let slip that a version of the Samsung Nexus S is coming to a third U.S. carrier, AT&T. This model is one of the few running the very latest smartphone version of the Android OS, plus it has a range of other high-end features.

The Nexus S debuted in December, and the first version supported only T-Mobile. This was the only option for months, then Sprint released its own version on Sunday.

And now it seems AT&T customers who are interested in this device might not have long wait -- Samsung briefly listed a version of this model on its website today. Because this carrier is going to be the third in the U.S. to have it, AT&T apparently wanted something to set its version apart, so it will be the first in a white outer casing. The current versions all have black casings.

The Samsung website did not reveal when AT&T plans to release the Nexus S, nor what it will charge for it. The T-Mobile and Sprint versions both sell for $200 with contract.

It's also not clear if this product will be sold by AT&T itself. The T-Mobile version is not actually available from this carrier, but Sprint's is.

The "Nexus" name indicates that this is the model Google recommends developers use, as it gets operating system upgrades before any other devices. Aside from this, though, it's not a particularly cutting-edge device.

It runs Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread) on a 1GHz Samsung processor, and sports a 4-inch WVGA (800 x 480), Super AM-OLED touchscreen which curves slightly to fit comfortably against users' faces.

The different versions of the Nexus S support the 4G network of whichever carrier offers it. This smartphone also has Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, NFC, and A-GPS. 

It also has a front-facing video camera for video conferencing, a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, 512MB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, but no microSD memory card slot.
