Verizon Launching Motorola Droid X2 Tomorrow

As had been rumored, the Motorola Droid X2 is going to debut from Verizon Wireless on Thursday, May 19. This cutting-edge Android smartphone will be Verizon's first with a dual-core processor.

It will resemble its predecessor, the popular Motorola Droid X, but has been upgraded in many ways. It will have a 4.3-inch Touchscreen with a qHD (960 x 540) resolution. Only a few handsets with qHD screens have been released.

The Droid X2 will be built around a 1GHz Tegra 2 dual-core processor and will debut running Android OS 2.2 (Froyo). However, Motorola and Verizon are promising an upgrade to the latest version of Google's operating system for smartphones, OS 2.3 (Gingerbread). There will be 512 MB of RAM, 6 GB of internal storage, and a microSD/SDHC memory card slot.

It will not feature Verizon's 4G service. It will, however, include 3G (EV-DO Rev. A), Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR and GPS. This Motorola model will have a camera with an 8-megapixel resolution, auto-focus, and dual LED. A front-facing camera for video conferencing is notably absent. This device will, however, boast an HDMI video-out port. 

Price and Availability
The Motorola Droid X2 will be available online at verizonwireless.com on May 19. Those who want to see this device before they buy it will have to wait a bit longer -- it isn't going to be in this carrier's retail stores until May 26.

This smartphone will sell for $200 with a new two-year customer agreement with both voice and data service. Nationwide Talk plans begin at $39.99 a month and an unlimited smartphone data plan is $29.99 a month.
