LG Revolution with Verizon 4G Might Launch Next Week

Verizon Launches Xperia Play, Revolution, Trophy, and Droid X2 Today

The long-awaited debut of the LG Revolution is reportedly scheduled for next Thursday. This Android smartphone will support Verizon's 4G LTE wireless network. It will also feature an unusually large touchscreen and a front-facing camera.

Verizon announced its intention to launch the Revolution at the CES tradeshow in January, along with several other 4G-enabled devices. At that time, the carrier was only willing to say that it will be on the market in the first half of this year. Verizon hasn't given an update on this LG model since then, but an unconfirmed report says it's going to drop on May 26.

An earlier report, also unconfirmed, indicated that this device is going to sell for $250 with a two-year contract. That's $50 more than high-end phones generally go for, but less than Verizon is asking for the new Samsung Droid Charge.

As the Revolution was formally announced months ago, most of its specifications are well known. These start with a 4.3-inch, WVGA (800 x 480) touchscreen set in a bar shape. Since it was first announced, LG has apparently slightly redesigned the look, adding more black to its back casing.

As one of the first smartphones with the 4G standard LTE, it will offer data transfer speeds of 5 to 12 Mbps for downloads and 2 to 5 Mbps upload speeds under real world conditions. LG's next smartphone will also include 3G (Ev-Do Rev. 0), Wi-Fi b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0, plus software to allow it to become a mobile hotspot to share its 4G connection with up to eight other Wi-Fi enabled devices.

It will be powered by a 1 GHz Cortex-A8 processor, and run Google Android OS 2.2 (Froyo); whether or not it will be upgraded to 2.3 (Gingerbread) at some point remains to be seen. The Revolution will come with a 16 GB microSD card for storage.

It's also going to include a rear-facing, 5 megapixel camera with flash and a front-facing, 1.3 megapixel camera, an HDMI video-out port, and DLNA. There will be an option wireless charging pad.
