Verizon Launches Xperia Play, Revolution, Trophy, and Droid X2 Today

Verizon Wireless simultaneously released four major devices on its network today -- all from different manufacturers -- giving users a variety of choices. We have featured coverage of all of the devices, which include the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, the LG Revolution, the HTC Trophy, and the Motorola Droid X2.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, the first PlayStation certified smartphone, has a 4-inch screen and slide-out set of controls, complete with a d-pad, X, triangle, circle, and square buttons, and a touch-sensitive track pad. Running Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread) and powered by a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor (with Adreno 205 GPU), the Xperia Play comes preloaded with approximately 2GB worth of games. It has 8 GB of onboard storage, but is expandable up to 32 GB via microSD cards.

For those looking for 4G LTE capabilities, the LG Revolution has what you need. Aside from access to Verizon’s high-speed data network, the Revolution offers users a large, 4.3-inch screen, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, and a 16GB microSD card (expandable up to 32GB), all while running Android OS 2.2 (Froyo). It comes preloaded with a handful of apps, including Rhapsody, Blockbuster Mobile, Let’s Golf 2, Rock Band, TuneWiki, BitBop, and Slacker Radio. In addition to its 5-megapixel rear-facing camera, the Revolution also has a 1.3-megapixel, front-facing camera for video chat.

The HTC Trophy marks the first Windows Phone 7 to come to Verizon Wireless and is currently only available for online order from Verizon’s website. Sporting a 3.8-inch Touchscreen and a 1 GHz Qualcomm processor (per the Windows Phone 7 minimum requirements), the HTC Trophy packs 16GB of on-board storage and 576MB of RAM. Other features include exclusive access to Microsoft applications like Xbox Live, Zune, and Outlook, as well as a 5-megapixel camera and Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity.

And finally, the powerful Motorola Droid X2 has a dual-core, 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor under the hood and runs Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) with Motorola’s Application Platform overlay. It features a 4.3-inch qHD screen, 8 GB of internal storage, and an 8 GB microSD card (expandable up to 32 GB). The Droid X2 has an 8-megapixel camera, as well as a preloaded Blockbuster Mobile application, 3G hotspot capabilities, and WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.

All of the devices are available for order now on Verizon’s website, all at subsidized prices after a 2-year contract. The Xperia Play is going for $200 and the Revolution for $250, while the Trophy costs $150 and the Droid X2 will run you $200.
