HTC Merge Android Slider Now Available from US Cellular

The HTC Merge has just launched from US Cellular, making it the first carrier in the United States to offer this mid-range Android smartphone. It comes with a 3.8-inch display, a sliding keyboard, and 8GB of storage.

This is the first handset from US Cellular with Google's operating system that supports both CDMA and GSM wireless networks. This means that the Merge can be used outside of the U.S. by plugging in a SIM card from the local country.

Mid-range Hardware
The HTC Merge isn't the most advanced model around, but it does have a design that's been popular in the past: a fairly large WVGA (800 x 480) touchscreen paired with a landscape-oriented sliding keyboard.

This smartphone runs Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) on an 800 MHz processor with HTC Sense overlaying the standard user interface. Like all Android smartphones, it includes a suite of communication, entertainment, and productivity software.

It comes bundled with an 8GB microSD memory card for storing files. Other features include a 5 megapixel camera with flash, 3G, Wi-Fi b/g, Bluetooth, GPS, and a 1400 mAh battery.

Price and Availability
US Cellular is now offering the HTC Merge in stores and on its website. This smartphone will sell for $150 with a two-year contract and a $100 mail-in rebate. Buying it requires a voice and data plan from this carrier.
