Amazon Offering Xperia PLAY, Droid X2, and Others for Under $100

Amazon.com is holding a sale on many of Verizon's latest Android smartphones. This has dropped the cost of hot new models from Motorola, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, and others to well below their regular prices.

The Motorola Droid X2 debuted less than two weeks ago at $200 with a two-year contract, but this very high-end model is available from Amazon for half that to new Verizon subscribers. Current subscribers who qualify for an upgrade subsidy can get it for slightly more: $120 with contract. The X2 has a dual-core, 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and a 4.3-inch qHD (960 x 540) touchscreen.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY is Playstation certified and comes with a set of gaming controls on a sliding panel. Instead of the usual $200, Amazon is asking $100 for it. This price is available to new and renewing Verizon customers.

The HTC Droid Incredible 2 is an even better deal. Verizon's price is $200 for this Android smartphone, but Amazon's is just $50 with a new contract, or $80 as an upgrade. It has a 4-inch WVGA (800 x 480) display and an 8 megapixel camera.

Verizon is charging more than usual for the Samsung Droid Charge: $300 with a two-year service contract. Amazon, on the other hand, currently wants $150 from new Verizon customers. There's no special deal for current subscribers, however. In addition to supporting this carrier's 4G LTE network, the Droid Charge includes a 4.3-inch WVGA Super AMOLED Plus touchscreen.

Those who are interested in these special prices  should move quickly -- this sale on these Android-based smartphones will last only until Wednesday, June 8.
