Kik Messenger Comes to Windows Phone

Kik Interactive has officially announced that it is adding Windows Phone to the growing list of platforms compatible with the Kik Messenger App, an instant messaging application that provides an alternative to standard text messaging. 

Kik Messenger comes out of Waterloo, ON, Canada, the home of BlackBerry manufacturer RIM (although the companies are unrelated, and BlackBerry OS is one of the few platforms Kik does not support). Kik offers a free alternative to SMS messaging, and the app’s creators swear it’s the fastest chatting app around.

Aside from sending text to an individual, users can also send pictures or create group chats. Messages will also be marked when they are sent, received by the other device, and read by the recipient. Users can also see when a person they’re chatting with is typing.

Kik for Windows Phone has been remodeled to match the Windows Phone Metro interface. It does not yet appear to be available in the Windows Phone marketplace, but can be downloaded from Kik’s website at no cost.
