The HTC Status is going to be an Android-based smartphone with a strong emphasis on social networking through Facebook. It is available for pre-order now exclusively through AT&T, and will be released next week.
The carrier has previously announced plans to offer this device, but just revealed today what it is going to cost: $50 with a two-year service contract. This price is in-line with its entry-level feature set.
After the week-long pre-order period, the Status will be available in AT&T stores and this company's website on Sunday, July 17.
More about the HTC Status
All smartphones can handle social networking, but HTC focused the design of this model on it. The Status will have a button dedicated specifically to Facebook. This will be context sensitive, and will pulse to let users know when they can easily share something. For example, if a user takes a photo with the smartphone's camera, a press of the Facebook button will automatically upload the image.
Beyond just Facebook, the Status will be bundled with the standard Android OS suite of communication and entertainment apps. It is going to run Google's operating system on an 800 MHz processor.
This smartphone will have 3G, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, and a GPS receiver. It will also include a 5-megapixel, rear-facing camera with an LED flash and a VGA front-facing camera for video chatting, as well as a microSD memory card slot and a 1250 mAh battery.
