Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY Available for AT&T and T-Mobile, Too

Verizon is the only U.S. carrier officially offering the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY, but AT&T and T-Mobile subscribers aren't being left out -- the online phone shop Expansys has a version that will work with these carriers' networks.

The Xperia PLAY is the first phone to be "PlayStation certified" and comes with the standard set of PS control buttons. It's also a smartphone with a powerful web browser, email software, navigation app, and more.

The version being offered by Expansys is being sold unlocked, which means it will work with any GSM-based carrier that uses SIM cards -- this includes AT&T and T-Mobile do. And this version supports the 3G service offered by each of these companies.

Even better, this product is on sale today, going for $440. While that's above Verizon's lowest price, those who buy this device from Expansys won't have to sign a contract.

Although it has the PlayStation name, as well as the usual D-pad, and X, O, square and triangle action buttons, this smartphone runs Google's Android OS. The good news is that this makes it a fully-capable smartphone. The bad news is that it can't run classic PlayStation games out of the box. Instead, Sony Ericsson is working with developers to create titles for this new platform.

The device is built around a 1 GHz processor and sports a 4-inch, WVGA touchscreen.  It comes with an 8 GB microSD memory card, and a 5-megapixel camera.
