Google Overhauling Android Market, Will Offer Movies and Books

A redesigned Android Market will soon provide users with the ability to buy books and rent movies directly from the storefront to their phones, in addition to software sales, as announced by Google. 

The Videos app will allow consumers to rent or buy movies without having to download the video online. There are currently about 50 or so movies available, ranging from$1.99 to $3.99, however that number is increasing quickly. 

Books purchased from Android Market, as well as movies, are linked to the user’s Google account, granting them access on any compatible device.

As a part of the new design, supplementary categories, like Editor’s Choice and staff picks, will be added to Android Market on phones, though original applications will be still available. 

The new service, available for all Android 2.2+ phones and only in the U.S., will roll out in the coming weeks and will resemble the Android Market Website.
