iPhone Gets iOS 4.3.4 Update to Fix Security Flaw

Apple has introduced a small update for the operating system on the iPhone and iPad. The single purpose of iOS 4.3.4 (or iOS 4.2.9 for the Verizon iPhone) is to close a security hole that allows PDF files to run unauthorized scripts.

The security hole can be used maliciously to, as Apple puts it, do "arbitrary code execution". This means that simply opening a PDF file found on the Internet can open the user's device to being hacked.

On the other hand, this same hole is being used by the website JailbreakMe to allow iPhone owners to quickly and easily jailbreak their device. Those who are interested in this should therefore forgo this update.

Neither iOS 4.3.4 nor the Verizon version appear to make any other changes. Users of Apple's mobile products are still waiting for iOS 5 for the raft of new features they have been promised.
