Today is the launch of the HTC Status, an Android smartphone with a focus on social networking. A dedicated Facebook button allows users to quickly post what they are doing, and a physical keyboard makes it easy to make status updates.
The Facebook button is context sensitive, and it pulses to let the user know when they can share something. For example, if the user takes a photo with the smartphone's camera, a press of the Facebook button will automatically upload the picture.
The Status can do more than just social networking, of course. It runs Android OS 2.3 on an 800 MHz processor, and comes bundled with the standard Android OS suite of communication and entertainment apps.
In addition, this smartphone offers 3G, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, and a GPS receiver. It also includes a 5-megapixel, rear-facing camera with an LED flash, a VGA front-facing camera for video chatting, as well as a microSD memory card slot and a 1250 mAh battery.
Price & Availability
The HTC Status is selling for $50 with a two-year service contract. Without a contract it is $400.
It is now available in AT&T brick-and-mortar stores and this company's website. It can also be purchased at the retailer Best Buy.
