AT&T Version of the Samsung Nexus S Introduced

A version of the Samsung Nexus S designed to work with AT&T's Wireless Network is now available exclusively from the national retailer Best Buy. This is the smartphone that Google recommends developers use, and it has the newest version of the Android OS.

Even though this device doesn't have the most advanced feature set, the Nexus S does have one stand-out feature: it gets system software updates before any other. It is also one of the first handsets with NFC (Near Field Communications).

This device isn't being sold by AT&T. Instead, it is available only from Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile retail stores and BestBuy.com/Mobile. It is selling for $100 with a new, two-year wireless service plan.

Overview of the Samsung Nexus S
This smartphone is one of the few that uses an unmodified version of Google's operating system. It runs Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread) on a 1GHz Samsung processor, and it sports a 4-inch WVGA (800 x 480), Super AM-OLED touchscreen which curves slightly to fit against the user's face.

The Nexus S also has Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1, NFC, and A-GPS, and this handset supports AT&T's voice and 3G data network.  There' no 4G support, however.

The device also has a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, a front-facing camera for video conferencing, 512MB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage, but no microSD memory card slot.

The nexus S debuted in December of last year but was only available from T-Mobile at that time. Sprint released its own version in May, and now AT&T has joined in, albeit indirectly. This leaves Verizon as the only carrier not offering a version.
