T-Mobile's New Tiered Data Plans Go Live

After weeks of speculation set off by a slightly vague announcemnt, T-Mobile has launched its new tiered data plans. In previous reports regarding the new service plans for the carrier, exact prices were ambiguous. However, the smoke has cleared to reveal what customers will actually be paying. 

For the classic 500 minutes of talk and text with data, which has a base price of $49.99, users will pay an additional $10, $20, $30 and $60 for 200MB, 2GB, 5GB and 10GB, respectively. Customers may choose which base plan they prefer, however the prices for data are set. 

Existing and new customers are eligible for the new Value plans with the purchase of a new handset. It looks like families will benefit the most from these contracts, as two smartphone users with unlimited messages and voice, 2GB of mobile data a month and $15 per handset payment plan would pay $140 monthly. 

As previously reported by Brighthand, users that surpass their data limits will experience 2G service until the next billing cycle. They won't be cut off or charged extra, their data transfer speed will instead be slowed down, a process known as throttling.

Though it is still uncertain if these new contracts will survive long after the merger of T-Mobile and AT&T, as no details revealing the fate of existing plans, once expired, were revealed when news of the acquisition surfaced.
