Google Updates Gmail App for Android

Google has released an update for the Gmail app on Android smartphones. The new version 2.3.5 brings a handful of new features and performance improvements.

One of the most impressive additions is the ability to save bandwidth and battery by only syncing priority mail. This feature will allow consumers to conserve data, which comes at a time when carriers’ are increasingly using tiered data plans rather than unlimited contracts.

Other improvements include label notifications allowing users to mash up filters, labels and ringtones, a remember “Show Pictures” for senders and better TalkBalk support for accessibility. Users will also be able to turn off stick message actions in landscape or all orientations.

The new version of Google's Gmail app is available now in the Android Market. Or, in many cases, the update will install itself automatically.
