Apple iPhone 5 Might Not Launch Until October

Several recent reports have indicated that the iPhone 5 is going to hit store shelves in September, but not everyone agrees. Apple's next smartphone won't be released until mid-fall, if a new report is correct.

Citing unnamed sources who are supposedly familiar with Apple's plans, AllThingsD says that the fifth-generation iPhone will debut in October, and possibly late in the month.

This contradicts earlier reports that this model is coming out in September. AT&T has reportedly told employees that there will be no vacations during the second week of that month, leading to widespread speculation that the carrier is going to introduce Apple's latest handset in that time period.

Neither Apple nor AT&T or Verizon has made any official statements about when the next-generation iPhone is going to be available, so those who are interested can only turn to rumors, leaks, and speculation for answers.

Although Apple has kept mum about the features of its upcoming smartphone, many of the details have leaked out. These show that the fifth-generation iPhone has once again been redesigned.

It will supposedly have a slightly larger screen than any of its predecessors, possibly 4 inches instead of 3.5. In addition, the Home button has reportedly been enlarged to become a gesture area, and the camera will be upgraded to 8 megapixels.

On the inside will be iOS 5 running on an Apple A5 dual-core processor. The amount of built-in storage capacity is not yet known.
