The Samsung Conquer 4G will be Sprint's 25th smartphone with support for its WiMAX service, but it will be the carrier's first 4G model to debut at just $100.
This Android-based device is going to have a featureset that matches its mid-range price, starting with its 3.5-inch, HVGA (320 x 480) Touchscreen -- rather small and low-resolution when compared to more expensive handsets. It will have front- and rear-facing cameras, but the rear one will be just 3.2 megapixels.
The Conquer's specifications may be modest, but it won't be out of date. It's going to launch with Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread), the most recent version of the Google's operating system for smartphones. It will include a 1GHz single-core processor and come with a 2GB microSD memory card for storage.
Like all Android models, it is going to include an array of communication and entertainment apps, such as a powerful web browser, email software, and more. It will also include Sprint ID.
In addition to WiMAX, this smartphone will have Wi-Fi b/g/n, and will be able to act as a 3G/4G hotspot for other computers. Bluetooth and GPS are also going to be included.
Price and Availability
Sprint is planning to introduce the Samsung Conquer on August 21. It will be available in Sprint stores as well as this carrier's website on that day.
This smartphone is going to sell for $100 with a two-year service contract. Getting this price will require a $50 mail-in rebate.
This handset requires activation on one of the Sprint Everything Data plans plus a required $10 Premium Data add-on charge for smartphones. Prices for this start at $79.99 per month. The Mobile Hotspot option is available for an additional $29.99 per month.
