Samsung Galaxy S II Will Make Its U.S. Debut in Two Weeks

Samsung has invited journalists to an event near the end of this month. While the company doesn't come right out and say what's going to be announced, a bit of detective work turns up proof that its going to be the U.S. debut of the Galaxy S II.

The invitation sent to the press, including Brighthand, is couched in general terms: "Please join Samsung Mobile for a major product announcement." There's a large "II" included as well, a clear hint that the Galaxy S II is going to be on the docket.

But there's more: the image that's embeded in the email is named "Galaxy_S_II_Invite_v2.jpg" leaving absolutely no room for doubt on what Samsung's plans are.

Here, There and Everywhere
The original Samsung Galaxy S deduted last year, and all of the top carriers offered a version, but under diffeent names. T-Mobile released the Samsung Vibrant while AT&T had the Samsung Captivate. Sprint and Verizon followed suit, releasing, respectively, the Samsung Epic 4G and the Samsung Fascinate.

The second-generation model is apparently also going to be available from a wide array of carriers. Samsung has a sign-up sheet for the device so people in the U.S. can be notified when the phone will be released by each carrier, and all of the top ones are one the list, from AT&T to U.S. Cellular.

This smartphone, which is already available and selling well in Europe, has a larger display than its predecessor, a faster processor, and better camera.

It run Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread) on a 1 GHz dual-core processor. The Galaxy S II has a remarkably slim bar shape built around a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus Touchscreen with a WVGA (480x800) resolution.

The specifications list includes an 8 MPx camera, a 2.0-megapixel front-facing camera for video conferencing, 3G, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, an A-GPS receiver, and DLNA.
