Verizon now offers the new BlackBerry Bold 9930 online and will distribute the handset in stores starting August 25. This is the first device released with BlackBerry OS 7, and it uses the traditional design for the Bold series.
Although it was known that Verizon would distribute the device, most believed Sprint would be the first carrier to offer the handset, especially after a leaked photo detailing a price for the Bold surfaced last week. However, Sprint recently announced the smartphone will not be available through the company until August 21.
At just 10.5mm thick, the Bold 9930 sports the thinnest design and widest QWERTY on a BlackBerry smartphone to date. The phone features a 2.8-inch display and offers Near Field Communication (NFC) support.
This smartphone runs on Verizon’s 3G network, but lacks 4G LTE support. It comes equipped with a microSD card slot with support for cards up to 32GB. The device also features a 5MP camera with flash and 720p HD video recording capabilities, and will enable Push to Talk capabilities after an OTA update.
Pricing Info
The handset is priced at $250 with a two-year contract. New customers to Verizon will need to purchase a plan, with the minimum beginning at $39.99 for monthly access and smartphone data package starting at $30 monthly access for 2GB of data, in occurrence with the carrier’s new tiered data plan. Those consumers already on a Verizon plan are grandfathered in and will continue to pay the same price for an unlimited data plan.
