Google Nexus Prime Set for October Launch

The Nexus Prime, which is likely to be the first smartphone to run Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich,” will launch in October, according to a new report. 

Google’s third generation Nexus, code-named Nexus Prime, is said to be powered by a 1.5GHz processor and will sport a 4.5-inch 720p super AMOLED HD display. While the handset is known to have 1GB of RAM, the storage capacity is still a mystery. The device is also expected to feature a 5MP rear-facing camera with an alleged “unusually high-quality sensor,” as well as a 1MP front-facing camera. It is also rumored that the Nexus Prime will include the 4G standard LTE, while Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and NFC are a certainty. 

While the smartphone’s predecessors, the Nexus One and Nexus S, were distributed by AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint, Verizon did not sell the handsets. However, a new report claims the nation’s largest network will be getting the Nexus Prime. 

If reports of a fall release hold true, the Nexus Prime will compete against another cutting-edge handset rumored for an October debut; the iPhone 5. The fifth generation iPhone is said to have a slightly larger display than the current model, a faster dual-core processor and an 8MP camera. If both high-end smartphones launch in the fall and on Verizon’s network, it could be a very interesting showdown.
