AT&T has committed to offering smartphones that support its upcoming 4G LTE network, and the identity of the first of these may have leaked out: the Samsung Impulse 4G.
An image supposedly shows what this device will look like, but there is no word yet on specifications. That said, traditionally the buyers for the first-generation of devices with faster wireless-networking technologies are businesspeople, so this model will likely have a high-end featureset. Relatively safe assumptions include the latest version of the Android OS running on a dual-core processor, with a large, high-resolution touchscreen.
AT&T's LTE network should be significantly faster than its current HSPA+ one, which the carrier also calls "4G". In a head-to-head competition, Verizon's LTE easily outperformed AT&T's HSPA+.
When this model is going to launch is not yet known. An AT&T executive said recently that his company's first LTE model won't be on the market until late this year.?
What About the iPhone 5?
Recently, there have been reports that Apple is possibly working on a version of the iPhone with LTE. When this is going to be released is not known, however.?
If the upcoming iPhone 5 has this feature, it might be AT&T's first, as this model is allegedly going to launch in early October.
