With Windows Phone 7.5 Mango set to debut in a little over a week, Microsoft has revealed plans of other forthcoming updates for the Windows Phone operating system.
Back in June Compal CEO Ray Chen accidently slipped the codename Tango during a press event, though Microsoft ignored the existence of the platform, until now. The company officially confirmed Windows Phone Tango during an MSDN Seminar in Hong Kong yesterday, August 23.
Despite speculation that Tango would be the next major upgrade after Mango, it appears the update will be a minor interim advancement. According to Microsoft, Windows Phone 8 Apollo will be the next major update following Mango, though the company remained hush on any details regarding the platform.
The focus of Tango will be on developing countries, like China and India, which have been traditionally neglected in the past. With manufacturers selling cheaper devices pre-loaded with Tango in these developing areas, Microsoft can bring services, such as Bing, to users in such markets.
While no other details regarding Windows Phone Tango or Apollo have been released, the world is at least aware that these upcoming versions of Microsoft's operating system do exist. Perhaps Microsoft will briefly touch upon the updates during the unveiling of the first smartphones running Windows Phone Mango next Thursday, Sept. 1.
