A spokesperson for Verizon Wireless said today that her company isn't going to offer a version of the Samsung Galaxy S II, a high-end Android smartphone that's selling well in Europe. However, the other top U.S. carriers are expected to introduce this model soon.
Verizon offered the predecessor for this model last year, though it re-branded it the Samsung Captivate. Unconfirmed reports had previously indicated that this carrier would be introducing the updated version.
However, spokesperson Brenda Rainey told the WSJ that Verizon won't be offering the Galaxy S II. She pointed out that her company already carries the Samsung Droid Charge, a similar Android smartphone that debuted this spring.
Just about Everywhere Else
Even though the largest U.S. carrier has passed on this model, consumers who are interested in the Galaxy S II won't have a problem finding it, as AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile are all going to be offering versions of it.
It is Samsung's current flagship handset, and runs Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread) on a 1 GHz dual-core processor. The Galaxy S II has a remarkably slim bar shape built around a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus Touchscreen with a WVGA (480x800) resolution.
The Galaxy S II's specifications list includes an 8 MPx camera, a 2.0-megapixel front-facing camera for video conferencing, 3G, Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, an A-GPS receiver, and DLNA.
The U.S. launch party will be Monday night, and Brighthand will be there to cover the event.
