Samsung Confirms Nexus Prime as Next Google Phone

Samsung may have just confirmed the next Google Phone will be named the Nexus Prime. This goes against a recent rumor that this cutting-edge model would be dubbed the Droid Prime.

Samsung posted a User Agent Profile xml file on its website under the name "nexusprime.xml".  A UAProf file is a description of the specifications for phones and other mobile device. It is used by companies to produce content in an appropriate format for the specific device.

The name for this particular UAProf appears to refute a recent report that this handset would be sold exclusively at Verizon Wireless and called the Samsung Droid Prime. Instead, it is apparently going to be the Samsung Nexus Prime.

The name in this case is unusually signifant. The Nexus series is made up of the devices that Google recommends developers use. They run a "stock" version of the Android OS, and are always the first to get system software upgrades.  

Details Still Lacking
Though Samsung confirmed the Nexus Prime's existence and name, no usable specs were revealed. The UAProf file identifies a phone’s capabilities and suggests it will have a 480 x 800 WVGA resolution and an ARM11 processor. Due to the disappointing quality of these features, it's possible Samsung is playing coy with the real specs, as previous reports have rumored the smartphone to have a 720p screen resolution and an OMAP4 processor. 

The page did shed light on one new detail regarding the Nexus Prime, verifying it as the GT-19250 device. This could indicate that an official release by Google or Samsung may be coming sooner than expected, as the GT-19250 is in the process of getting both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth certifications.
