AT&T Introduces Xperia PLAY 4G, Mobile Gamers Rejoice

AT&T has just begun offering the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY 4G, which could be best described as a PlayStation Phone. This gaming-centric Android device is coming in at a surprisingly low price.

The Xperia PLAY debuted from Verizon last spring, and AT&T is the second U.S. carrier to offer it. An unlocked version for T-Mobile is also available.

This device has a sliding panel with the usual PlayStation set of buttons, as well as a trackpad. AT&T's version comes with an array of games,  including: Dungeon Defenders Second Wave, Asphalt 6 Adrenaline, Star Battalion, Madden NFL 11, The Sims 3, Tower Bloxx: My City, and Crash Bandicoot. There are 150 other games designed for this device available for purchase.  

This carrier is also bundling the Sony Ericsson Multimedia Dock DK300 and MC100 music cable with this model.

It's a Smartphone, Too
The Xperia PLAY 4G has more to offer than games. It's a complete smartphone running Android OS 2.3 on a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor with an Adreno 205 GPU and a 8GB microSD card for storage. Users can watch video and use the Web on the 4.0-inch FWVGA (480 x 854) touchscreen.

It has a 5MP main camera and VGA front-facing one. It also includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless networking, and support for AT&T's 4G HSPA+ network.  

The Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY 4G is available now from AT&T for $50 with a two-year wireless service contract. This is half the price Verizon is currently asking for its version.
