Apple To Release Two iPhones this Fall, says Analyst

Mark Moskowitz, an analyst with JP Morgan, is the latest to say that Apple is about to introduce not just one new iPhone model, but two. These will be targeted at different markets, however.

One of these is the much-anticipated iPhone 5, which Moskowitz says will be a world phone with support for both GSM and CDMA wireless networks. This will apparently enable Apple to make a single device that supports AT&T and Verizon -- as well as Sprint and T-Mobile, if these carriers are added to the roster, as has been rumored.  

The analyst, in a note to clients released today, went on to predict that Apple's fifth-generation smartphone will not be able to connect to the 4G LTE networks that Verizon and AT&T offer.  This will leave it behind a number of recently-released handsets running Google's Android OS.

A Cheaper Option
Whenever Apple releases a new smartphone, it keeps the previous one around at a lower price. Moskowitz predicts that this will happen again with the iPhone 4, but with a twist: he says that this model will have "some improvements".

This analyst is not the first to make this prmouncment. Talk of the iPhone 4S has been circulating for months. Previous reports have indicated that this device will have an Apple A5 dual-core processor, not the single-core A4 chip that is in the current version.

Moskowitz says these devices will be released at some point in the fall. Other reports have been a bit more specific, pegging an early- to mid-October launch.
