Nokia N9 MeeGo-based Smartphone Ships Out Today

Nokia announced that it has shipped the N9, the first (and possibly last) MeeGo-based smartphone the company will make. 

The Nokia N9 sports a 3.9-inch AMOLED screen with scratch-resistant curved glass and no physical buttons. The handset also features an 8MP auto-focus camera and HD-quality video capture. Weighing in at 135 grams and measuring 12.1 mm thick, the Nokia N9 comes with a near-field communications chip (NFC) and GPS capabilities. 

The N9 user interface has three home views: applications, events and live applications. Users can download applications via the Nokia Store and can access the Internet using 3G HSDPA. 

Nokia scrapped the MeeGo OS in February when it announced plans to use Microsoft’s Windows Phone as its primary operating system for smartphones. The company expects to unveil its first Windows Phone at the Nokia World conference on Oct. 26, and start shipping models before the end of the year.

The Nokia N9 retails for $560 and $650 for the 16GB and 64GB models, respectively. This smartphone is not available in the United States or the U.K.
