HTC Responds to Claims of a Major Security Flaw in Its Android Smartphones

After recent reports of a massive security flaw in some of HTC’s Android devices, the phone manufacturer has released an official response to the claims. 

Promising that it takes the security of its products very seriously, HTC has concluded that while its software does no harm to customers’ data, there is indeed a vulnerability that could potentially be exploited by a third-party application. The company goes on to state that it has not learned of any customers being affected by the flaw thus far but are working quickly to release a security update that will resolve the issue on targeted devices. 

HTC claims that once the update is tested it will be sent over-the-air to customers, with the company urging all users to install the update immediately. The company concluded by urging all customers to download applications with caution during this time. 

Currently the HTC smartphones affected are the EVO 3D and 4G, as well as the ThunderBolt. because of the flaw, any app requesting a single android.permission.INTERNET connection can access information such as a list of user accounts, email addresses, GPS locations and phone numbers, among other private information.
