The iPhone 4S is here! Eager shoppers who pre-ordered the latest edition of Apple's smartphone last week will receive their phones today. Those who were late to get their orders in can try their luck at select carrier stores, and of course at Apple locations.
Despite an unimpressed response from pundits after Apple unveiled the 4S model, sales of the latest iPhone have exceeded expectations. AT&T claimed to have received more than 200,000 pre-orders for the iPhone 4S in the first 12 hours of being announced. So who's buying it?
According to a survey from Retrevo, 24% of all current smartphone owners plan on purchasing Apple's most recent handset. In addition, 44% of respondents who currently own the iPhone 3G and 3GS plan on buying the upgraded iPhone, while 42% of iPhone 4 owners are prepared to purchase the device. Although some people were dissatisfied that Apple did not reveal the rumored iPhone 5, it appears 71% of smartphone owners were not disappointed by the iPhone 4S announcement, as seen in the survey.
For those of you still undecided if Apple's fifth generation iPhone is worth your money, here's a little recap of its specs to help you decide. Packing a 1GHz dual-core processor, which is an upgrade from its predecessor's 1GHz single-core chipset, the iPhone 4S also features an 8MP camera and it launches running iOS 5, Apple's latest OS which was made available on Wednesday. A new voice-control system called Siri, along with iCloud is also part of the latest model.
It is being offered by AT&T, Verizon, and -- for the first time -- Sprint. Regardless of carrier, the iPhone 4S sells for $200, $300 and $400 for the 16, 32 and 64GB models, respectively, with a two-year contract.
