T-Mobile Announces Dual-Screen LG DoublePlay

T-Mobile has officially announced its latest smartphone, the "LG DoublePlay", which will have an unusual design with a small secondary display set in the middle of its keyboard.

The DoublePlay, which garners its name from its dual touchscreens, will sport a full slide-out split QWERTY keyboard, in addition to Swype for easy text input. As for those two displays, the DoublePlay will feature a 3.5-inch main screen, as well as a 2.0-inch sub display, both of which can operate independently or in tandem.

Set to run Android OS 2.3 Gingerbread, the DoublePlay will pack a 1GHz single-core Snapdragon processor and a 5MP rear-facing camera. Users will be able to send group texts and access cloud text, which will allow them to compose and respond to SMS messages on their computers, according to T-Mobile. 

While the carrier released no details today regarding pricing or availability, recent rumors have pegged the handset to launch on Nov. 2 for $150 with a two-year contract. LG’s latest smartphone will be the main device of its fifth annual U.S. National Texting Championship, which kicks off on Oct. 26.
