Motorola Droid 4 Will Sport 4G LTE

Images and specs of the fourth-generation Droid have leaked out, giving the world an advanced look at this upcoming Verizon model. It will apparently have much in common with its predecessors, but with some improvements, including a slimmer shape.

Like the earlier devices in this series, the Droid 4 will reportedly have a physical keyboard, with four rows of keys, including a row dedicated to numbers. This will slide behind a 4-inch Touchscreen -- the type and resolution of this display is not yet known.

The smartphone will have a front-facing camera and an HDMI port. This video-out port and the micro-USB port will be arranged to give this device support for Motorola's Webtop accessories, which can turn this phone into a simple laptop or desktop computer.  

In the wake of the Droid RAZR unveiling, thin is clearly "in" at Motorola. Even though it will have a sliding keyboard, the Droid 4 will still be as slim as possible. One of the sacrifices for this design will be inclusion of a non-removable battery.

One of the notable improvements will be the addition of 4G LTE. When the Droid 3 debuted earlier this year it drew criticism for its lack of 4G support, as it came out at a time when many of Verizon's other high-end models included LTE.

The current prototype of the Droid 4 is running Android OS 2.3.5, but an upgrade to Android OS 4.0 is a safe bet. The only question will be whether this happens before or after the launch. This will, of course, depend heavily on when this product is released, a detail that is currently unknown.
