Google Introduces Then Quickly Pulls iPhone Gmail App Due to Bug

Hours after releasing its long-awaited Gmail app for iOS, Google has pulled the app over a notification bug. 

Earlier today Google announced that a Gmail app was finally available from the iOS App store for the iPhone and iPad. The program was supposed to offer iOS users the same label, starring and archiving Gmail experience that has long been available on Android, yet many users received an error message instead of their emails. Apparently, after first launching the app on both iPhones and iPads, users claimed a “no valid ‘aps-environment’ error entitlement” error appeared. 

Quickly, Google had to announce its removal of the app, which is no longer available from the App Store. 

“Earlier today we launched a Gmail app for iOS. Unfortunately, it contained a bug which broke notifications and caused users to see an error message when first opening the app. We’ve removed the app while we correct the problem, and we’re working to bring you a new version soon. Everyone who’s already installed the app can continue to use it.”

In addition, the Gmail app would have brought iOS users push notifications, threaded conversations, photo upload capability, full account search, Priority Inbox, searching and integration with both your device’s address book and your Google contacts. 

While the Gmail app would have been a nice addition, iOS users can still access emails from their Gmail accounts using the regular email app and POP3, IMAP or Microsoft Exchange.
