Verizon's newest -- and thinnest -- smartphone is the Motorola Droid RAZR. Even though it sports a wide range of high-end features, this Android device is just 0.28 inches (7.1 mm) thick.
The latest in the popular Droid line has a tablet shape that includes a KEVLAR backplate and a display made of Gorilla Glass. The 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Touchscreen has a qHD (960 x 540) resolution.
On the inside is a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of on-board storage, and a microSD card slot. It is launching with Android OS 2.3.5 (Gingerbread), but Motorola has already committed to an upgrade to Android OS 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
Like many high-end models these days, the Droid RAZR has an 8MP rear-facing camera capable of 1080p HD video. There's also a 1.3 MP one on the front for video chat.
It can connect to Verizon's 4G LTE network, plus it has 3G EV-DO Rev. A, Wi-Fi, GPS, and a non-removable 1,780mAh battery.
Motorola also built Webtop compatibility into the design, so this smartphone can be turned into a laptop or desktop by adding the right accessories. A video-out port with 1080p is included as well.
The Motorola Droid RAZR is available now on Verizon's website where it costs $300 with a new or renewed two-year service contract, or $650 without. Amazon.com, on the other hand, is charging just $120 for new Verizon customers, or $190 to those who are upgrading.
Other carriers outside of the U.S. will be offering this handset too, but under the simpler name Motorola RAZR. This name harks back to the RAZR line of featurephones that sold by the million last decade.
