Google has sent invites to the press for an event to be held on Nov. 16. The heading for the invite -- "These Go To Eleven" -- gives a strong hint that it's going to be music-related, and likely will be the debut of the Google Music Store.
This company has been offering the beta of a music streaming service since late spring, but Wednesday is expected to be the launch of the first full version of Google Music. Rumor has it the ability to buy songs is going to be added, which will make it a direct competitor for Apple's very popular iTunes service.
An open question is how many of the big record labels Google has been able to sign up for its service. It needs several of these if its music store is going to be viable.
The invite is accompanied by a graphic that hints at what's on the docket. Not surprisingly the Android logo appears, but the T-Mobile logo is also shown prominently.
Wednesday's event is scheduled for 5pm EST/2pm PST. It will be streamed at YouTube.com/Android
For those who are two young to know, "These Go To Eleven" is a reference from the mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap in which Nigel Tufnel is thrilled by an amp that could be turned up to 11, not just the usual 10.
