AT&T added two new Samsung models to its product line-up today, as well as one from Pantech. These all run the Android OS, and are either mid-range or entry-level smartphones, but sport three very different designs.
The Samsung DoubleTime (at right) has a clamshell shape. It gets its name from its two displays: a 3.2-inch, HVGA (320 x 480) external touchscreen, plus a second internal display that's the same size and resolution. The smartphone runs Android on a 600MHz processor. A 2GB microSD card and a 3.2MP camera are included.
This model costs $50 with a two year contract. That's the same price as the Pantech Pocket (shown here). This handset has a simple tablet shape built around a 4-inch SVGA (800 x 600) screen, a higher resolution than the more typical WVGA (800 x 480). Also features a 5MP camera.
The Samsung Captivate Glide (at left), on the other hand, is a slider, with a QWERTY keyboard that can be hidden behind its 4-inch Super AMOLED screen. The Android device includes a 1GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. It has an 8MP with rear-facing camera and a 1.3MP front one.
This model costs $150 with contract. This higher price reflects its more advanced features.
These models have a few things in common. They all run Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread), for example, and all have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. In addition, both the Captivate Glide and the Pocket support AT&T's 4G network.
