If you're like me, when you travel you carry several different devices and/or associated accessories. You need chargers and cables, but you don't want to load yourself down with gear, so anything that can serve double duty is welcome. That's why I like the StarTech 2-in-1 Mini-USB/Micro-USB Combo Cable.
BUILD & DESIGN
This has a unique double-headed design that covers two of the most popular standards: the older Mini-USB and the newer Micro-USB. This means this one cable can be used with just about every Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone or webOS smartphone ever made, as well as many, many accessories.
I mostly use this cable when I'm on the road to charge my gear. And what I like best is that it can charge two devices at once, as long as they have different types of ports. For example, it can charge my phone and an external backup battery at the same time because the handset has a micro-USB port, while the battery has a mini-USB port.
It can handle data too, of course, but just one device at a time. It supports USB 2.0 for quick transfers of images and songs. It's 3-feet long -- plenty of length to reach back behind even a desktop.
I have been using this accessory from StarTech for well over a month now on multiple trips, and it has delivered all I have asked of it. It has found a permanent place with my gear.
CONCLUSION
The StarTech 2-in-1 Mini-USB/Micro-USB Combo Cable (USBHAUBMB3) has an innovative design that makes it convenient for those who carry a smartphone and other accessories. I wish it was a retractable cable, but it's still a nice addition for your gear bag.
It is available now from StarTech, for $9.99. Other online retailers have it for slightly less.
