UPDATE: Verizon says that it has fixed the glitch that brought down its 4G network yesterday, but it hasn't revealed what the source of problem was. Users of this carrier's LTE-enabled devices confirm that the issue has been repaired.
Verizon Wireless customers across the U.S. are unable to access this carrier's 4G LTE network. There are also reports of 3G data problems as well.
In response, the carrier posted this statement on one of its Twitter feeds:
We're working to resolve some 4GLTE issues ASAP, some customers report operating on 3G or no data. 3G data; calls/texts unaffected
Based on the reports, some coming from Brighthand and other TechnologyGuide staff, it appears that those who have a 4G smartphone are having problems connecting to not just LTE service but also to the carrier's 3G EV-DO network. One of these reports is from J.R. Nelson, Site Editor for DesktopReview, who uses an LG Revolution and said, "I'm having a hard time staying in 3G. It's dropped to 1xRTT a few times and others it simply won't connect to data at all."
On the other hand, those who have Verizon smartphones with no 4G support, such as the Apple iPhone, are having no problems with making 3G data connections.
Deja Vu
This isn't the first time Verizon's 4G LTE network has gone offline. Back in April, it was down for a day before the carrier could hunt down the problem. This delayed the launch of its second 4G smartphone, the Samsung Droid Charge.
