OnLive, the cloud gaming company, has launched a free app that brings gamers access to top-tier console games on their Android smartphones and tablets over a Wi-Fi or 4G LTE connection. An iOS version is also expected soon.
The app offers a selection of 25 games that have been adapted for Touchscreen devices. Such games offered are LA Noire by Rockstar Games, which now features native touch control, and LEGO Batman: The Videogame, which will be given free to anyone who downloads the app.
Existing OnLive subscribers will be able to access all of their purchased games on their smartphone or tablet, regardless what device the game was originally purhcased on. The reverse is also true.
Currently, the smartphones that are compatible with this app are the Google Nexus One, HTC Evo 4G, HTC Rezound 4G, HTC Sensation 4G, HTC Sensation XL, Motorola Droid 2, Motorola Droid X2, Motorola Droid Bionic, Motorola DROID RAZR, Motorola Photon 4G, and the Samsung Galaxy S II 4G.
OnLive went out on a limb and announced the iPhone and iPad version, even though it has yet to be approved by Apple.
A Non-Touch Option
The company also announced an upcoming wireless controller that will work with almost all of the nearly 200 games in OnLive's library. However, some games will not be available for the new app due to licensing agreements between the cloud gaming company and publishers. The controller will retail for $50.
