Unconfirmed reports had indicated that Verizon was going to release two Android smartphones with 4G LTE this week, but this did not happen. This has left this carrier's subscribers still waiting for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Motorola Droid 4.
Verizon is cutting things close, if it hopes to get these models on the market during the holiday shopping season. It typically realses new handsets on Thursdays, and if it continues this practice, it could be Dec. 15 or even later before these two smartphones are introduced.
This is especially vexing to those who are eagerly awaiting the Galaxy Nexus -- a cutting-edge device that is the first available with Google's Android OS 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich).
Samsung Galaxy Nexus Overview
The Samsung model has a 4.65-inch, 1280 x 720 Super AMOLED display that is slightly curved to fit against the user's face. It runs Android OS 4.0 on a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, with 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of internal storage.
Other features of Verizon's Galaxy Nexus include 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and NFC, plus it has a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.3 megapixel one on the front.
Motorola Droid 4 Overview
The latest in the Droid series is expected to debut with Google's Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread) running on a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 1GB RAM and 16GB of built-in storage. It will have a 4-inch qHD (960 x 540) display and a sliding landscape-oriented keyboard.
In addition to 4G LTE, it will sport Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. The Droid 4 will also have an 8MP rear camera and a front-facing one, too.
