Motorola Droid 4 Might Not Launch for Months

When Verizon gave the world a sneak peek at the Motorola Droid 4 a few weeks ago, many assumed this meant this smartphone would be on the market soon. It has yet to be released, however, and a new report indicates it might not be for a couple of months.

The Droid 4 will be the latest in a series of handsets that has had a significant role in popularizing the Android OS. Like its predecessors, it is going to have a relatively large touchscreen as well as a sliding keyboard. It will be the first in this series with 4G LTE.

According to an unconfirmed report, this model was going to hit store shelves today. This didn't happen, and supposedly won't until February 2. 

The reason for this delay is not yet known, but one possibility is it will give time for Motorola to develop a version of Android OS 4.0 (code-named Ice Cream Sandwich) for this handset. Previously, the Droid 4 was expected to launch with Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread).

Verizon is still keeping quiet about the details of the Droid 4, but that hasn't stopped virtually all of its specifications from leaking out. The latest in the Droid series is expected to debut with Android running on a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 1GB RAM and 16GB of built-in storage. It will have a 4-inch qHD (960 x 540) display and a sliding landscape-oriented keyboard.

In addition to 4G LTE, it will reportedly sport Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. The Droid 4 will also have an 8MP rear camera and a front-facing one, too.
