One of the biggest questions for 2012 will be, when is the the next-generation iPhone going to be released? According to one source, Apple's sixth smartphone won't be available until next fall.
From 2007 to 2010, this company introduced a new smartphone each summer. This year, Apple waited until October to bring out a new model. This has left many wondering if this device maker is going to return to bringing out new handsets in the summer, or stick with fall.
BGR believes it has the answer: it has been told by an unnamed source that the replacement for the iPhone 4S won't be on the market until autumn of next year.
A Completely New Design
This same source indicated that Apple's next-generation smartphone won't have the same "teardrop" design as appeared in so many leaks and rumors a few months ago about the iPhone 5. That design has been dropped, reportedly at Steve Jobs insistence.
Exactly what the sixth iPhone (which might still be called the iPhone 5) will look like is not yet known, and Apple itself might not have yet settled on a final design, but it will supposedly have an all-metal back plate, and the antennas are going to be located in the bezel around the touchscreen.
An open question is whether the handset will have a larger display. The iPhone 4S has a 3.5-inch one, while competing models running Google's Android OS have much bigger screens, some approaching 5 inches.
