RIM Could Be Prepping a Single BlackBerry 10 Smartphone

If a new report is correct, Research In Motion is putting all its eggs in one basket: it is supposedly working on just one model to run the upcoming BlackBerry 10 operating system. All the others have been dropped.

In recent months, information about three future BlackBerrys has leaked out of RIM: the Colt, Milan, and London. According to an unconfirmed report published today, two of these have been canceled, leaving just the London.

This model will allegedly run BlackBerry 10 on a 1.5GHz dual-core processor from Texas Instruments with 1GB RAM. It will employ a bar shape with a 3.7-inch touchscreen, and sport dual cameras: an 8MP rear-facing one and a 2MP  one on its front.

RIM in Crisis
The long-running BlackBerry line was once the most popular smartphones in America, but dropped significantly last year because of strong competition from Apple's iPhone and devices running Google's Android OS.  RIM's turn-around plan depends heavily on the release of BlackBerry 10, a greatly-updated operating system based on the QNX core.

However, the company has run into delays porting its software and services to the different platform -- RIM execs announced recently that the first handset running BlackBerry 10 won't debut until late this year.
