CES 2012: LG Reveals the Spectrum, a Verizon Wireless 4G LTE Handset

LG introduced its previously-rumored Verizon 4G LTE handset, the Spectrum, today at CES, and announced that it will be released in less than two weeks on January 19.

The phone is going to sport a sizable 4.5-inch IPS display with RGB and a resolution of 1280 x 720. Powered by a Qualcomm 1.5 GHz dual-core processor, the Spectrum will also feature an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1080p HD video capture, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, and HDMI mirroring with MHL (mobile high-definition link).

As far as preloaded software goes, the Spectrum will come with a version of ESPN ScoreCenter that features HD content, as well as the SmartMovie HD app, which allows users to create and edit video content right on their phone.

The smartphone won't be completely cutting edge, however, as it will run Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread) at the time of its release, with an upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich coming sometime in the first half of 2012.

Still, the Spectrum will apparently be a decent deal, as it is still going to features very respectable specs while sporting a relatively modest (as far as 4G handsets go) $200 price tag at the time of its launch.
