Ever since Microsoft bought Skype last spring, people have been wondering when a client for this VoIP service will be released for smartphones running Windows Phone. According to a Skype executive, the answer is still "soon", the same thing Microsoft has been saying for months.
Skype was supposed to be integrated into Windows Phone 7.5 (Mango). But when this update for Microsoft's mobile operating system was introduced a few months ago, there was no sign of this video chat service.
However, Skype's VP of products, Rick Osterloh recently told The Verge that an app for this platform is "coming soon". He did not get more specific.
This will reportedly be a stand-alone app, similar to the ones already available for the iPhone and Android. Skype won't be integrated into Windows Phone until the next update for this operating system, code-named "Apollo".
